2016 PRIMARY CANDIDATE COMMITTEES

Monthly:  Committees that have been filing on a monthly basis in 2016, but whose candidates are not participating in the general election, have a choice between filing either the Pre- and Post-General Election Reports (see chart above) or Monthly Reports covering October and November (due November 20 and December 20, respectively).

Quarterly:  Committees of candidates not participating in the general election need not file the Pre-and Post-General Election Reports. These committees, however, must continue filing on a quarterly basis.

CANDIDATE COMMITTEES NOT ACTIVE IN 2016 ELECTIONS

Committees only active in past or future elections do not file the Pre-and Post-General Election Reports. These committees continue to file according to their regular reporting schedule (monthly or quarterly).

NOTE FOR COMMITTEES NOT REQUIRED TO FILE A POST-GENERAL ELECTION REPORT CHART II (see above)

For candidates who ran in 2016 but did not participate in the general election, the reporting period for the Year-End Report spans two election cycles. For this report only, committees should instead use the Post-Election Detailed Summary Page (FEC Form 3, Pages 5-8) [PDF]. Committees should not use the normal Detailed Summary Page.

SUPPLEMENTAL FILING INFORMATION: Presidential Committees

FOOTNOTES:

1 These dates indicate the beginning and end of the reporting period. A reporting period always begins the day after the closing date of the last report filed. If the committee is new and has not previously filed a report, the first report must cover all activity that occurred before the committee registered up through the close of books for the first report due.

2 Committees not required to file on a monthly schedule during 2016, and whose candidates are not participating in the general election, need not file the Pre- and Post-General Election Reports. These committees, however, must continue to file on a quarterly basis.
